Guillermo Del Toro is no stranger to period pictures, from the shape of water to Pan's Labyrinth he's well know for his ability to faithfully capture the magic of a bygone era through lush visuals, costumes and period accurate music. Nightmare Alley is another example of how captivating a story can be when all of these elements are working together. Along with the brilliant score composed by Nathan Johnson the film makes use of a number of period classics to include "This Years Kisses" , "Where Was I" , " Little Brown Jug " and Chatanooga Choo Choo as it was performed in the the 1940's movie "Sun Valley Serenade" by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra with Tex Beneke, Paula Kelly, and the Modernaires. The music of Harry Warren seems to live on forever in hit after hit of his timeless classics continue to light up the screen through the magic of hollywoods great directors.
